Description |
An Extremely Good Quality Walnut Domed Bureau Bookcase of Narrow Proportions.
This delightful bureau bookcase dating to the late 19th Century circa 1880 has been constructed extremely well with prominent use of 18th Century techniques. Probably one of the best we have had, the attention to detail is excellent and proportions are wonderful.
The domed top having an endgrain walnut cyma reversa moulded cornice over a shaped bevelled edge mirrored door, with moulded surround which opens to reveal shelved storage compartments.
The top sits over a fall front bureau with moulded book rest which opens onto pull out lopers to reveal a beautifully fitted walnut interior consisting of concave shaped herringbone drawers with pigeon holes above flanking a central locking door having columns to either side. There is a leather gilt tooled writing surface with a sliding panel having a storage compartment beneath.
The base has a moulded break above three front to back pine lined herringbone banded drawers with the original brass drop handles, escutcheons and twin pin brass locks.
The whole being raised on turned walnut bun feet.
The quality of this bureau bookcase is second to none and the attention to detail is fantastic even having front to back linings as an early 1700’s drawer would have.
In excellent condition having been fully restored using traditional methods this lovely bureau bookcase having excellent narrow proportions and a stunning interior will grace any home.
Depth of the top 9 3/4 inches - 25cm
