Description |
An exceptional quality French Boulle inkstand / inkwell dating to circa 1830.
This beautiful Boulle marquetry inkstand is made from solid rosewood covered in gorgeous red tortoiseshell and finely inlaid with fretted brasswork. This combination is know as Boulle and very desirable having such an exquisite look.
The shaped rectangular body having it's original raised cut crystal inkwells of substantial size with engraved gilt hinged covers flanking a rosewood sunken well for nibs and stamps.
The brass marquetry boulle work on this inkstand is of the finest quality we have seen, along with a grand pair of detailed inkwells.
Offered in superb condition having been finely restored by a master craftsman of boulle work who has worked on many museum pieces.
This is a very good quality inkwell which when placed on a desk will attract a lot of attention.
