Description |
A fantastic quality untouched large oak studio easel by the famous firm Windsor and Newton from London. In lovely original condition this large adjustable oak easel has it's original winding handle and cast makers plated engraved "Studio Easel Windsor and Newton London". It has a delightful double winding mechanism one which alters the height and another which bring the easel forward and backward also it has adjustable front leg which turns for balance with the whole being raised on its original porcelain castors. This is one of the best easel I have seen and owned, still retaining some of the original artist paint from his works, this would have cost a fortune in the Victorian time to have been made and I can only presume the artist who owned it would have been very good and famous.
Ever since 1832, when Winsor and Newton was founded, the artists' materials and equipment manufactured by this firm have generally been considered among the best in terms of quality, consistency and durability, and these are all elements exemplified in the present lot. From the start, William Winsor and Henry Newton developed a close working relationship with painters at the forefront of the art world including the renowned Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851)
