| Description |
| Sue Rowe is a Birmingham born and based artist painting in acrylics on deep box canvas and specialising in cityscapes but no matter what the subject matter, her art is instantly recognisable by her style.
Sue creates exciting, contemporary paintings that are unusual in the fact that they are created by using a very limited colour palette. In any of her paintings there are usually only eight solid colours apart from maybe an odd picked out colour detail or two. Even so, many of her paintings are practically photo-real and are often mistaken for photographic prints!
Sue says: “I call my art ‘Precision Art’ as by using a complicated process which I have developed over a number of years I produce almost ‘photo real’ paintings by the layering of this small colour palette. It never ceases to amaze me that, having pushed this process to its limits, this sort of result can be achieved with so few colours! I believe the way I create my paintings is unique to me as I am not aware of anyone else using the same type of process”.
Sue’s inspiration is mainly drawn from street life as she has great love of classic and modern architecture and many of her paintings reflect the often stark contrast between old and new in cities, such as the juxtaposition of classic buildings and modern technology like cars and telephone boxes. She also has an avid interest in social history and is fascinated with the populace who live within city infrastructure.
“As I paint from photographic images my subject matter is limitless but my cityscapes are like photographs as they represent a fraction of a second in time that can never be re-created”.
Sue has paintings in collections around the world including: Germany, France, Spain, Italy and United Arab Emirates.
A bit about Sue’s background.
Sue is also a specialist in Ultra Violet painting and worked for many years as a Freelance Corporate Interior Designer/Maker in the music and leisure industries, designing and making hand-painted U.V. backdrops and name & logo banners, mobiles and general nightclub decor. She also designed and made dance and theatrical costumes for street artists and nightclub performers, and organised theme and costumed dance events.
