Description
This portrait was created by Arron Bird, appropriately named, Salvador Dali. This amazing work seems to exude the essence of Dali himself, and evokes an imposing presence. Arron Bird picked up his first can of spray paint when he was just 11 years old, and created his first painting “Street Level”. After 24 years, Arron Bird is now more famously known by his tag, Temper and has achieved phenomenal success as a graffiti artist. Although he worked a number of jobs, Temper always knew that his heart was with painting. He successfully launched and ran a line of graffiti inspired clothing called Blind Mice Clothing during the 1990’s. His series of big breaks came in 2001, beginning with a campaign with Sprite. He was chosen to produce a design to go on 100 million sprite cans. From this, he went on to do commissions for Coca-Cola, Saatchi, and the BBC, amongst others. Temper had become the first graffiti artist to ever be awarded a solo show in a major public gallery space with his ‘Minuteman’ exhibition at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery in 2001. He broke attendance records in the process, witnessing 38,000 visitors within 4 weeks. Temper has gone on to receive massive commercial success and was the first graffiti artist to paint a conceptual collection in the UK. This first collection was entitled ‘The Good Die Young’ featuring a series of iconic portraits inspired by his own personal loss of several family members. This 27 piece series consisted of figures from popular culture that had a significant impact on him and was painted entirely freehand using black and white spray paint. In 2007 Temper became the first graffiti artist to be awarded a commission for a major piece of public art from The Cube development in Birmingham. He has also created a series of paintings for Chelsea FC, for the players’ lounge at its training ground in Cobham. He went on to create several other collections including Decade, Popcorn, Too Good To Die Young and A New Day, all of which have been successful. Temper’s 'A New Day' collection marked the beginning of a new chapter for the prolific artist, as he moved towards traditional fine art, despite his work still being painted with aerosol.
