Fine Pair of 19th Century Arts & Crafts Oak Torcheres, Robert Lorimer. #2847

A fine pair of architectural Arts and Crafts oak torchere / stands in the manner of Sir Robert Lorimer.

Scottish Circa 1880.

Finely carved, the lobed circular capitals above waisted and reeded stems with moulded collars, over friezes incised with holly leaves and berries on baluster supports and splayed square plinths carved with thistles.

These fine torcheres have an architectural quality allied to the Arts and Crafts aesthetic, which suggests that they may be by the celebrated Scottish designer and architect Robert Lorimer, (1864-1929). It is always hard to attribute without provenance or a signature (as his pieces were not signed) and from research these would appear to be a one-off, but it is quite possible Sir Robert Lorimer was the designer and maker of these fine stands.
