Unusual Early 20th Century French Thuya Wood Metamorphic Writing Table #2790

A very elegant and stylish thuya wood metamorphic writing table with bone stringing and tulipwood crossbanding.

French, circa 1910-20.

Inspired by the late 18th Century neoclassical designs (particularly those of Thomas Sheraton) this extremely good quality table has a wonderful elegance, with the use of select cuts of rich thuya wood contrasting beautifully with the white bone stringing.

The metamorphic sliding top, strung and tulipwood banded, exposing a fitted interior and writing surface, the lockable frieze dividing to reveal sectional writing compartments, incorporating the original capped ink wells and leathered writing surface, raised on slender flared square tapering legs joined by shaped stretchers.

In excellent condition with a wonderful colour.

A very elegant table that is suitable for both a contemporary and traditional interior, very much of the style David Linley has adopted for his works.
