Fine 19th Century Chinese Huali Stand / Table With Alabaster Inserts #2793

A fine late 19th Century Chinese huali wood stand / table with inset panelled alabaster top.

China, circa 1880.

The serpentine edged square top divided by four inset alabaster panels above a quatrefoil and keyhole-pierced frieze with leaf-carved scrolling aprons below joining the four bamboo carved shaped legs terminating on a splay foot. The centre having two stepped undertiers joined by carved bamboo supports united by a lower stretcher.

The proportions and carvings of this table are superb with the huali timber being of excellent quality whilst retaining a wonderful colour.  The detail is a pleasure to see as the craftsmen has allowed carving below the frieze to flow from the leg to give the appearance of a growing and flowering bamboo plant.

Offered in excellent condition having been restored using traditional methods this well-constructed table boasts a wonderful rich colour.

Having a hard wearing top this table can be used in a variety of places throughout the home. A very good quality table and delightful model.
