Pair of Early 19th Century Gilt Bronze and Lustres Three Branch Candelabra
#2806
A very attractive pair of early 19th century three branch gilt bronze candelabra with cut-glass lustres.
Probably English Circa 1820.
Of rare form and in wonderful original condition, the three leaf cast branches with tulip nozzles and petal-cast drop pans festooned with cut-glass lustres supported by gryphon-cast tricorn plinths and platforms.
This very well cast pair lend themselves to be of English origin with the details of the nozzle design and the foliate branches deviate from the standard French designs.
Although the French had a virtual monopoly on domestic bronzes from the 18th century onwards, by the early 19th century English manufacturers were catching up, aided no doubt by the import blockades produced by the Napoleonic wars at this time.
