Fine French Second Empire Gilt Bronze Mounted Mahogany Library Desk Krieger #2833

Fine French Napoleon III second Empire Gilt Bronze-Mounted Library Desk probably by Krieger.


French Circa 1880.


Having finely constructed flame mahogany veneers over an oak carcass, the oblong leather lined top with recessed conforming leather lined slides, over three flush frieze drawers with gilt bronze embellished escutcheons, above a recessed kneehole flanked by pedestals each housing three drawers enclosed by columnar pilasters with gilt leaf cast collars, sitting on a moulded plinth raised on milled and turned gilt bronze feet.

Free-standing with a conforming panelled back having a central gilt wreath and mask.


In excellent condition retaining the original leather and fine colouring to the flame veneers.


Bearing a Parisian retailers label to the top drawer this fine desk was most probably constructed by famous the cabinet makers Maison Krieger of Paris. 

Maison Krieger, was one of the largest producers of furniture in Paris in the late 19th Century specialising in Empire designed furniture, winning several awards including the Exposition des de l'Industrie in 1849 and in the Universal Exhibitions of 1851 and 1855

The company was located at 74, Rue Du Faubourg St. Antoine.
